Mammoth Ivory 1911 Grips

Our woolly mammoth ivory 1911 grips are crafted from genuine Siberian ivory — the actual tusks of woolly mammoths that lived between 10,000 and 40,000 years ago. This material is fully legal to own and sell in the United States. It is prehistoric ivory, completely distinct from modern elephant ivory and not subject to any CITES restrictions or Endangered Species Act regulations.

Each tusk section produces entirely unique coloration: ivory white, cream, caramel, brown, and occasionally deep chocolate tones, with natural Schreger lines (the distinctive crosshatch grain unique to proboscidean ivory) visible in many pieces. No two grips are ever identical.

Our proprietary stabilization process locks in the material's structure, dramatically reducing the risk of warping, cracking, or moisture absorption. Every set is hand-fitted and finished to your 1911 model.

COMPATIBILITY: Colt 1911 Full Size, Commander & Officer | Kimber | Wilson Combat | Dan Wesson | Nighthawk | All standard 1911-pattern pistols

Wooly Mammoth Ivory Tusk - #567

US$750.00

Rare color. Ancient material. A pattern created by the earth itself.

This is an exceptionally distinctive set of fossil mammoth ivory, featuring one of the most sought-after characteristics found in naturally mineralized mammoth ivory: striking blue and blue-gray coloration.

The warm honey and golden tones of the original ivory are dramatically contrasted by deep cobalt-blue, blue-gray, and charcoal mineralization, creating an almost painterly pattern across both panels. The coloration flows through the natural grain rather than sitting on the surface, giving the grips extraordinary depth and character.

The Rare Blue

The blue coloration found in certain mammoth ivory is exceptionally desirable among collectors.

These colors are associated with mammoth tusks that were preserved in mineral-rich ground, including deposits associated with cobalt-bearing soils and minerals. Over thousands of years, mineral-rich groundwater gradually interacted with the outer portions of the fossil ivory, producing the remarkable blue and blue-gray coloration seen in pieces like this.

Natural warmth. Ancient character. A pattern that could never be reproduced.

This exceptional set of 1911 grips showcases the natural beauty and individuality of genuine fossil mammoth ivory.

The overall color is a warm cream and honey tone, with soft golden areas flowing through the fine, naturally occurring grain. What makes this particular pair especially interesting is the contrasting mineralized figuring that runs through both panels.

The right grip features a dramatic dark brown-to-black natural mineral streak extending vertically through the ivory, with lighter brown and translucent areas surrounding it. The left panel carries its own complementary streaking and natural figuring, creating a pair that feels visually connected while still retaining the individuality of each piece.

These markings aren't painted, stained, or artificially patterned. They are part of the material itself—the result of thousands of years of burial and natural mineralization.

Understated beauty from a material more than 10,000 years old.

This exceptional set of 1911 grips showcases the lighter, more refined side of fossil mammoth ivory. Rather than dramatic dark mineralization, this pair features warm natural ivory tones ranging from soft cream and pale blonde to subtle honey coloration.

The surfaces reveal fine, flowing grain throughout the material, with gentle variations in tone that become more apparent as the light moves across the grips. One panel displays a particularly beautiful warm honey-colored section, while both grips retain the clean, naturally aged character that makes genuine mammoth ivory so distinctive.

Look closely and you'll find the small imperfections and natural markings that tell you this is fossil ivory—not a manufactured imitation. These characteristics are part of the material's history and are precisely what make each set unique.

There are grips that are simply accessories—and then there are grips that become part of the history of the firearm they adorn.

These custom 1911 grips are crafted from genuine fossil mammoth ivory, a material that has spent more than 10,000 years preserved in the earth. Over millennia, the ivory naturally absorbed minerals from the surrounding soil, creating coloration and patterns that cannot be duplicated.

This particular set displays a striking combination of warm natural tan and honey tones, contrasted by deep brown and near-black mineral streaking. The dark figuring runs organically through the material, creating a dramatic pattern that is completely natural. No two pieces of mammoth ivory are ever exactly alike.

Some materials are manufactured. Others are created by time itself.

These one-of-a-kind 1911 grips are crafted from genuine woolly mammoth ivory sourced from Siberia, where mammoths have remained preserved in the permafrost and earth for more than 10,000 years. Every piece carries a history that began long before modern civilization—and no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

The ivory's soft, creamy color provides a warm, natural contrast to the dark finish of the 1911, while delicate brown and amber streaks run through the material in patterns created entirely by nature. Those markings aren't printed, dyed, or artificially reproduced. They are part of the story the ivory acquired during thousands of years beneath the earth.
